Top 10 Best Recliners For Sleeping 2018
#1 Value Best Recliner For Sleeping (under $250)
Dorel Living Real Tree Camouflaged Rocker Recliner –
As with most products, you get what you pay for, however, you don’t need to break the bank to get a good quality recliner that will provide the basics of comfort and support. The Dorel Living Real Tree Camouflaged Rocker Recliner is one of the cheaper recliners on the market, however, it has good comfort and support to provide a satisfying sleep.
First of all, it is an over-stuffed chair with superior coil and foam that will provide a nice base for a relaxing nap. Over-stuffed chairs are an ideal choice for people that like a less firm chair, that has a soft cushion feel. This cushioned recliner would be perfect for dozing off for a daytime snooze.
A nice feature this recliner has is that in the upright position it is a rocker. I don’t know about you but when I am in a rocking chair, my eye lids get very heavy. So after sitting upright in this chair for a few minutes with the relaxing motion of the rocker, I am pretty sure it will prepare you for a nice sleep.
I know that for some the people being able to sleep in fully reclining recliners is important but unfortunately, this chair doesn’t recline fully flat, however, for under $250 I couldn’t find a recliner that did. As you can see in the image, it reclines back to a nice angle. Therefore, for people that want to sleep on a recliner because they don’t want to lie down fully flat, then this sleeper recliner is a good choice and at a nice budget of under $250.
The recliner is upholstered in authentic Real tree poly-cotton twill fabric and has a natural camouflage look to it. For a budget recliner, it has a nice feel, soft and cushioned and is certainly a good recliner for napping on. I really like the rocking feature, which is superb for relaxing and getting that sleeping motion happening.
If you are looking for a budget recliner to relax and sleep on, with a rocker feature, then the Dorel Living Real Tree Camouflaged Rocker Recliner is a good option for you.

Best Small Recliner For Sleeping, Perfect For Small Spaces (under $500)
Franklin Serenity Manual Wall Proximity Lay Flat Recliner –
As said earlier, the most important features a recliner needs for a comfortable sleep are: firstly, of course it has to be extremely comfortable and secondly it is a huge bonus if it can recline to a fully flat position. Many people don’t fall into a really deep sleep unless they are in a fully flat position. These people will want to sleep in fully reclining recliners, therefore this little beauty of a recliner is the perfect choice. If you are relaxing in this recliner and feel like a nap then pull the lever and it will glide back to a fully flat position, ideal for a deep sleep.
But is it the most comfortable recliner to sleep in? Fortunately, it is very comfortable. This comfy recliner chair is injected with gel foam, so it will have that memory foam mattress feel to it. It doesn’t have a sink into it cushion feel but it does have that soft supportive feel that is similar to a gel foam mattress bed. This firmer feel is ideal for people with bad backs and for people that prefer a firmer mattress or chair.
This chair is also perfect for smaller rooms, not only because it has a smallish footprint but also because it is a wall hugger. I said earlier that this recliner reclines into a fully flat position but it is also a wall hugger, meaning that it glides down into a flat position, needing very little space behind it. All that is needed is 5 inches of space behind the chair at any time, which means this recliner is perfect for small apartments and won’t need much space in an upright position or when it is fully reclined.
This recliner has a weight capacity of 275 lbs and is more suited to the average or smaller person in height. If you are looking for a compact size recliner, firm but comfortable, wall hugger, with the ability to recline to a fully flat position, then definitely consider this Lay Flat Recliner For Sleeping by Franklin.
- Color – Cachet Mineral
- Materials – Cover: 100% polyester, Frame: furniture grade plywood & hardwood plywood, Foam: 1.8 Density, Springs: 8 gauge sinuou
- Dimensions – 34″ x 34.5″ x 38″
- Weight limit – 275 lbs
- Foam injected for a firmer feel, ideal for bad backs and for people that prefer a firmer mattress
- Wall hugger – Only needs 5 inches of space behind the recliner to allow enough space to recline fully
- Recliner can lay fully flat when in full recline, meaning perfect for sleeping on
- Ideal for people that want to sleep in fully reclining recliners
- Small in size
- Ideal for small spaces
Best Power Recliners For Sleeping (under $1000)
Mega Motion Infinite Position Power Easy Comfort Lift Chair –
Even though this mega motion recliner has a power lift option that guides a person off the chair, this is not why I chose this recliner. The reason I picked this recliner is because of its infinite position feature. Basically this recliner allows you to fully recline to a flat position. As I said in the previous review, many people use a recliner because they can’t sleep on a flat surface, however, for those that prefer to sleep on a flat surface, this recliner is the one for you. If you are sitting down in your living room and nodding off to sleep, at the press of a button you can make this recliner into your very own bed.
This is also an electric recliner, meaning that there is no fiddling around with levers to recline. You press a button to either move back or move forward. If you are worried that you might get stuck in a recline position, then fear not because there is an Integrated Emergency Battery Backup included to raise the chair in case of a power outage.
Mega Motion recliners are well known for making sturdy solid recliners and this one is no different. It is constructed with furniture grade hardwood/plywood and designed with a heavy-duty steel lift mechanism. The weight capacity of this chair is 325 lbs.

Best Zero Gravity Recliners For Sleeping (over $1000)
Human Touch PC-300 Perfect Chair Electric Power Recline Wood Base Zero-Gravity Recliner –
Now we are taking the recliner to another level, and yes, the price reflects this. In the introduction I said that you get what you pay for. I also said that there is a good quality recliner for all budgets and I proved this in the last two reviews. However, when you pay at a premium, you do get that little bit extra. And that little bit extra here is ‘Zero Gravity’.
The Human Touch Zero Gravity Recliner is built with a sleek design with a black vinyl upholstery and dark cacao wood frame.
If you fancy a nap in this chair, you are going to recline into a weightless position where your legs are above your heart. This position is recommended by physicians and is fantastic for those suffering from back pain. The beauty of lying with elevated legs is that it improves blood flow throughout the body. This improved blood flow is great for circulation, transporting oxygen and nutrients to injuries and relieving aches and pains.
Firstly, the recliner is designed to place your body in the correct ergonomic position. Then with the press of a button on the side of the chair, the recliner will glide back to elevate your legs higher than your head( you can also recline to a regular angle).
If you are suffering from aches and pains, especially in the lumbar area, then I recommend this Human Touch Zero Gravity Recliner for sleeping in a ideal position.
- Color : Black
- Materials : Black Vinyl with Cocoa Dark Wood Base and Steel Frame
- Dimensions : Height – 47″, Width – 29″, Length – 41″, Depth – 22″

Best Nursery Recliner For Sleeping With Baby
Swivel Gliding Recliner by Baby Relax –
Whether it is a day time snooze with baby, or a night time feeding session, a regular chair just doesn’t fit the bill. What a parent needs is a good quality recliner that is both comfortable and sturdy and easy to glide into the perfect position for feeding and sleeping. This swivel, gliding recliner by Baby Relax ticks all the boxes for a nursery recliner.
First of all, this recliner is sturdy and solid and built not only for smaller people. One customer commented on how happy she was that her husband of over 6 foot was able to get some sleep time with their baby on this recliner. Also this nursery recliner has a rocking motion, actually more like a gliding motion, than a regular rocking chair. This gliding motion, will sway the chair backwards and forwards, which will have a soothing effect on baby and will send the both of you off to sleep in no time.
Speaking of features, another great feature this recliner has, is that it can swivel. How will a swivel help a nursing mother? Well, if you need to reach for something with baby in your arms, you can swivel around to get it rather than getting up out of the chair. This of course will be ideal when you have a sleeping baby, so you won’t have to disturb baby with big movements.
With this rocking feature, it is also quite easy to get out of the chair because when you rock forward it kind of helps you out of the chair. With a little practice, you will be going from seated to standing in no time once you get used to the rocker. Some reviewers have complained that it can be more difficult for the smaller person to push the footrest back in, however by using this rocking action as you come out of the recline, it will make pushing in the footrest down a lot easier.
Finally, the recliner comes in only two pieces, making set up a breeze. The box will be quite heavy but once it is inside your home, assembly will be no problem, even for one person.
This recliner is not only a classy looking nursery chair but its rocking and swivel features make it great for tired parents and babies to get some quality sleep and feeding. If you are looking for a nursery recliner for you and your baby, then check out this recliner by Baby Relax.

Best Large Recliner For Sleeping, Ideal For Big and Tall
Before starting this review, I just want to say that Lane Furniture is a highly respected furniture manufacturer and one of the best in America at producing high quality recliners. When it comes to Lane Furniture, I have no hesitation in reviewing them.
Now to the review. We all come in different sizes and thankfully so do recliners. Lets be honest, an regular sized recliner may be perfect for small to medium size people, however if you are big and tall, then you can expect your legs to hang over the footrest and your head to stick out over the top. Not ideal when you want to relax and have a snooze, right? What if I was to tell you that this extra large recliner can handle the tallest of men. A customer sent a glowing review on Amazon stating that she was delighted to have finally found a recliner that was a perfect fit for her 6′ 8″ husband.
This extra large recliner is reputed to be the biggest on the market and is advertised as being the same length as a King Size mattress when in full recline. This recliner is not only designed for extra tall people but is also built for heavy people, with a weight capacity of 500 lbs. This heavy duty recliner is built to last.
So we know that it can handle large people but is it good for sleeping on. Firstly, the material is soft but durable. The chair is definitely well cushioned and is one of the most comfortable recliner chairs to sleep in. It doesn’t recline back flat though and I reckon this is because of its weight capacity. A chair that has a weight limit of up to 500 lbs, can’t recline back to horizontal. It may not be perfect for sleeping on your side because of this issue, however as a sleeper recliner it is both comfy and large enough to handle long legs and also support the whole body from head to toe.
If you are a large person and sick and tired of not being able to relax or fall asleep on your chair because of lack of support, then this recliner is definitely one for you. To see what other people thought of the Stallion Comfort King Chaise by Lane Furniture, follow this link.

Children love recliners….fact! Then again, who doesn’t love recliners! However, if there is a recliner in a room then a kid definitely will want to use it, but a lot of the time the recliner is too big and sturdy for the little ones to use. This is where a miniature recliner, a perfect size for small kids will be just what they are looking for.
When looking for a kid’s recliner, that is ideal for taking day time naps, comfort is a must and also sturdiness to withstand the stresses and strains an active child will put on it. Finally, the recliner not only needs to look cool but it also needs to be easy to clean. Taking all that into account, here is what I found.
The heavily plush padded Children’s Recliner by Flash Furniture, makes this chair a winner for comfort. This chair looks so comfy, it will definitely be used for sleeping. The padding on the back and the arms will be nice and snug for a small child and perfect for reading, watching TV, relaxing and of course napping.
This chair may be small in size but it is well built and has a very solid hardwood frame. This is essential for children because we know how they can be a little rough on furniture sometimes. Best Sleeping Chairs For The Elderly
Power Lift Recliner Chair with Emergency Backup –
When looking for the most comfortable recliner chair for the elderly, comfort is very important, however added support is also an important area. Aging bodies are not as mobile as before, so ease of standing up and sitting down can be an issue. This is where a power lift recliner can be very useful.
First of all, this chair is very comfortable but not in a sinking way. It certainly has some support which is probably a good thing for bad backs. The upholstery is a soft to the touch chenille fabric.
The most important feature is the power mechanism that will help elderly and disabled people to stand up and sit down on the chair. This is great for elderly people because it gives them a lot more independence and allows them to get on and off the chair without the need of a helping hand.
The recline action is all powered so no physical effort or strength is needed. There is no need to worry about having enough strength to push down the footrest because it is all done by the press of a button. The recline action happens in this order, the footrest rises first and then the back of the chair reclines. The chair doesn’t recline fully flat but it reclines enough for a comfortable sleeping position.
This power recliner is plugged in and and is run by electricity. Many people with mobility issues worry that they will get stuck in the recline position if there is a power outage. There is no need to worry about this with this recliner because it has an emergency back up battery that starts up automatically if there is ever a power outage. The power mechanism works quietly and smoothly and you can recline to a position you are comfortable with by using the power corded control.
The recliner is pretty easy to assemble and looks fabulous when finished. It is also a wall hugger, which means it doesn’t need that much space between it and the wall behind. Even when transitioning into full recline, it will glide into position without hitting the wall.
This power recliner is by Coaster Home Furnishings and is an ideal choice for seniors, people recuperating from operations, the disabled and those that lack mobility. The power feature is wonderful for those that can’t stand up or sit down without human assistance. Check out some of the positive reviews from very satisfied customers.

Best Rocker Recliner Sleeper Chair
Comfortable Rocker Recliner by Ashley Furniture –
The smooth rocking motion of a rocking chair has always made my eyes lids feel heavy. A rocker recliner is an even better experience as it is a mixture of a comfy couch and a rocking chair. This rocker recliner by Ashley Furniture definitely will not disappoint in regards to comfort, performance and looks.
Comfort wise, the chair is heavily padded at the back, making it very comfortable to lie back on. When in a recline position the over stuffed padding makes it perfect for a relaxing sleep. The upholstery is made of an earthy faux leather, which looks both rustic and very easy on the eye. The traditional rolled arms are accented with nail-head trim, giving that classic armchair look. Faux leather is a lot cheaper, easier to keep clean and is just as comfortable as its real leather counterpart. So don’t let the ‘Faux’ put you off this recliner, faux looks just as good as real leather.
The rocking motion is nice and smooth, however this is a manual rocker, meaning you will have to rock the recliner with your own body movement, very similar to a rocking chair. If you are the same as me, then it won’t take very long before the rocking motion puts you into a soothing sleep. The recliner can rock when in a sitting position or in a recline position. The recliner will only rock when you want it too, so if you prefer to relax without the rocking motion, then it will be your choice.
There is some assembly required, however it is not that difficult to assemble. The dimensions are 43” W x 40” D x 40” H when fully assembled, however the delivery will fit through doorways of 32″ or wider.
If you are looking for a great looking, most comfortable rocker recliner chair to relax and sleep on, then this sleeper recliner by Ashley Furniture is a perfect choice.

Best Massage Recliner Chair For Sleeping
Massage Heated Recliner Chair, 360 Degree Swivel –
When looking for a top quality recliner chair that vibrates and massages, there were quite a few to choose from. The dilemma for me was price and looks. The majority of the massage chairs were very expensive and could range from $800 to $2000. I am sure they were great but it wasn’t what I was searching for. Another issue I had with these expensive massage chairs is that they looked like space eggs from a sci-fi movie. They looked like commercial massage chairs, not like recliners and they certainly didn’t look like recliners that I could sleep on. I wanted a recliner that looked like an armchair but can also give me a soothing massage. Luckily enough I found this one.
First of all this recliner looks great! Secondly, it looks very comfortable. The arms and head rest are extra padded to add more comfort and will be great for lying back and taking a nap. Each arm rest also has a cup holder, which is very handy if you doze off. Nothing worse than falling asleep on your chair with a drink in your hand. Also, the recliner can swivel 360 degrees, which is a handy feature for reaching for things without the need to leave your chair.
And now for the fun features. This massage recliner has 8 vibration points located in the back and seat area. There are 4 modes of vibration that can be controlled by the user (pulse, press, wave and normal). These vibration points will gently massage your body from your neck down to your lower legs, helping you relax and de-stress. Of course, these vibrations will be perfect to soothe any aches and pains and also help relax the body before a sleep.
Another feature which I love (especially for winter days) is the heating function. This heating function will relax the body and allow the massage to penetrate the muscles more effectively. This combination is very SPA like and extremely relaxing. The intensity of the vibrations, the modes, the heating and the body area of the massage can all be controlled by a corded remote control, putting full control of your massage in your hands.
Sure, there are better massage chairs on the market, however they will be 4, 5 or even over 6 times the price of this recliner. For comfort, functionality and looks, this recliner is a real bargain and is definitely a match for more expensive massage chairs.
If you are looking for a massage recliner for sleeping, with the soothing and relaxing features of vibrating massage and a SPA like heating function, then look no further than this one.

The Most Comfortable Recliner Chair To Sleep In – A Buyer’s Guide
When buying a recliner, there are some important factors to consider before making your making your final decision. Maybe you have a certain style of chair in mind, however it is good to know what is available before making your purchase. Firstly, let us have a look at the different types of recliners available.
A Rocker Recliner –
A rocker recliner is sometimes called a glider and does what its name says, it rocks. Similar to a standard rocking chair, a rocker rocks back and forth giving a soothing and relaxing experience. Of course, the rocker feature is great for a person that is planning on sleeping on the recliner, so it is a top feature to look out for.
A Swivel Recliner –
A swivel recliner has the ability to easily twist around, just like an office chair. Most swivel recliners can turn a full 360 degrees and are very handy for having easier access to areas around you, for example reaching for things next to or behind the recliner. The swivel is more of a convenience feature and I do believe that it is an excellent feature for nursing mothers, so they don’t have to disturb baby when they reach for something next to or behind the chair.
A Wall Hugger Recliner –
When a recliner is in a fully reclined position, it is at its largest and will take up the most space. A standard recliner will need extra space behind it to be able to fully recline, or else it will hit the wall. A wall hugger doesn’t require any extra space behind it when it is reclining. All that is needed is a few inches between the back of the recliner and the wall and the recliner will glide into position without touching the wall. This is great because it means you can place the recliner near the wall at all times and will not have to move the heavy recliner away from the wall each time you want to recline. A wall hugger is also a great feature for small spaces.
A Power Lift Recliner –
A power recliner uses electricity or is battery operated. It normally has 3 standard movements: forward, neutral and recline. The forward movement pushes the chair forward, making it easier for someone to sit down. This forward position is great for the elderly, disabled and those with mobility issues. When seated, the user can power the seat back into a neutral position. The chair can then be electronically put into a recline position. Not everybody is mobile enough to manually use a recliner, therefore a power recliner is very useful and is often classified as a medical device. A power recliner is controlled by a remote control and will usually have a battery back up, in case of a power outage.
(A Power Lift Recliner In Action)
A Nursery Recliner –
Nursery recliners has already been mentioned above in the swivel section. Many nursing mothers like to use a recliner because it is more comfortable than lying in a bed or sitting in a regular chair. The angle of the recline is more comfortable and supportive for both mother and baby. A recliner is great for day and night time feeding and also for allowing a tired mother and baby get some valuable sleep during the day. The rocking feature in a nursing recliner is obviously a fantastic feature for helping baby relax and is very soothing. As mentioned above, a recliner is far more comfortable than a regular rocking chair. The swivel is another handy feature because the parent can reach for things close at hand on all sides of the recliner. This saves the parent from having to stretch for the item or disturb a relaxed baby by getting up from the chair.
A Massage Recliner –
A massage recliner is an awesome chair and is like your own personal home Spa. They can be quite expensive, therefore budget is important. A massage chair uses vibration points throughout the chair to send vibrations onto certain parts of the body. These vibrations can soothe aches and pains and it is very relaxing. The massage recliner usually has a heated option as well, which allows you to heat up the recliner. The heated chair not only keeps you warm but it will also relax the muscles, making the massage more effective. Of course, a massage and heat on the body is a great way of unwinding and will be very helpful in aiding a good sleep on the recliner.
A Kid’s Recliner –
Why should a kid miss out on all the fun of a recliner. A recliner is comfortable, fun and relaxing and children love them. Kid’s recliners are really miniature and are perfect for kids between the ages of 2 and 6. They come in a whole range of colors and are normally quite sturdy and durable. You can rest assured that a good quality kid’s recliner will be able to handle an active and boisterous child.
Important Things To Consider Before Buying A Sleeper Recliner
Recliners come in all shapes and sizes and they also come in all different price ranges. Depending on quality and features, a sleeper recliner can cost as little as $100 all the way up to $2000. The more features a recliner has, usually makes it more expensive, however the more expensive it is doesn’t always mean the better it is. I am a firm believer in the saying “you get what you pay for”, however you can still get a great quality recliner for a reasonable price. When finding recliners to review, I always look for value. Value is not always the cheapest but it certainly isn’t the most expensive. If you like one of the recliners reviewed above, check out other customer reviews that I have linked to. The more positive reviews the better.
Do you have enough space for that large recliner? Recliners, like any other piece of furniture will need enough room to fit comfortably. However, a recliner will need more space than its dimensions because it is at its largest when it reclines. Make sure you have enough space in your living room for the recliner and also buy accordingly. A big guy needs a big recliner. He also needs bigger space because the big recliner has a big footprint.
What do you want it for? –
Reading the types of recliners above should answer this question. There are many features available when buying a sleeper recliner chair and you may not need all of them. The more features the recliner has, the costlier it may be, therefore only take what you need. There is no use in getting a massage recliner if you will never use the massage feature.
Body size –
Make sure you buy the most comfortable recliner chair that is suitable for your body type. There is nothing wrong with a small person loving an extra large recliner, however an extra large person in a small recliner is not a good match. If you are big and tall, make sure you buy a recliner that is large enough to accommodate your whole body. If your head and lower legs are hanging over the edges, it won’t be very comfortable and you can forget about have a relaxing sleep.
Tips For Taking Care Of Your Recliner
Recliners can cost several hundred dollars, so it is worth looking after. To see some more tips on taking care of your recliner, follow the link. Here are a few important ones:
- A damp cloth should keep most upholstery clean, however a cover is the best way to keep it looking like new for longer. A slip cover will protect it from dirt, sunlight and general wear and tear.
- Oil it regularly. The recliner will come with instructions, so read them and follow them. You don’t want your recliner to squeak every time it reclines so a little oil every now and again will help keep it moving smooth and silent.
- Like any piece of furniture, take special care of the weak parts. Don’t allow kids to stand on the foot rest and sitting on the arm rests is never a good idea.
- Don’t yank on the handles. Treat your recliner with care and it should run smoothly for years to come. However, keep an eye on your warranty so that if it needs some repairs you can get it done before the warranty runs out.
What Are The Health Benefits Of Sleeping On A Recliner
Helps With Acid Reflux –
Some people find it difficult to sleep at night because of acid reflux. Acid from the stomach rises up the body, when in a prone position, making it very uncomfortable and very hard to sleep. To combat this, many people raise their upper body by lying on a wedge or several pillows. A recliner can be beneficial for people to sleep on when they are having heart burn problems.
Recovering From Surgery / Injury –
When a person is recuperating from surgery, lying on a bed can be more difficult. Sleeping on a recliner, especially a power lift recliner can make it easier to get on and off the chair and also makes it easier to have some naps during the day.
Great For The Elderly And Immobile –
As a body ages, it can get more difficult to stand up and sit down. A power recliner is the perfect solution for helping elderly people access a chair and giving them more independence. Power recliners have helped so many elderly and disabled people sit down and stand up without the need of human assistance.
Easier To Breath –
When a person has breathing issues, lying down can make matters worse. Several pillows are often used to raise the upper body, however a recliner is a far better solution. A recliner can recline back just enough to support the body and make it easier to sleep but also raises the upper body enough to make sleeping possible when a person is having respiratory problems.
Improves Blood Circulation –
When sitting for long periods of time, it can cause problems with blood flow, causing swelling to occur in the lower legs. By raising your legs, it improves blood circulation, relieving some of this swelling. Although, a recliner is not the perfect solution for this issue (more standing and movement is), it certainly helps blood flow through the legs when they are raised on the footrest.
Helps Reduce Back Pain –
People suffering from back pain often find matters worse when standing. Sitting down helps a little but there is still a lot of pressure from the weight of the upper body on the spine. Lying down on a bed helps a lot, however it is not the most practical solution. Sitting in a recline position, takes a lot of this pressure off the spine and makes sitting down a lot more comfortable.
A recliner is one of the most relaxing pieces of furniture you can buy. They not only look great but also the many features they have takes sitting down and relaxing to a whole new level.
